MCP Integration

Control Coda from AI assistants

Control Coda from AI assistants using the MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Works with Claude Code, Gemini CLI, and OpenAI Codex.

Setup

When you first launch Coda, a banner will offer to enable MCP integration. Click Enable to set everything up automatically for all installed agents.

1

Click Enable

This installs the MCP server and registers it with all detected agents (Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex)

2

Restart your agents

Restart any running AI agents to pick up the new MCP server

3

Start using it

Ask naturally: "restart the backend", "show me errors", "open localhost:3000 in the browser"

Skills are installed as a symlink to the app bundle, so they automatically stay up to date when Coda updates.

Available Tools

The MCP server provides 30+ tools organized by category:

  • Projects - List, start, stop, restart, update projects and check for errors
  • Logs - View project logs, filter by errors, search log content
  • Browser - Open URLs in embedded browser, get browser console logs, take screenshots
  • Layouts - List, create layouts, add projects to existing layouts
  • Links - Add, update, delete project links; open links in browser or embedded panel
  • Quick Commands - List, add, run, update, delete quick commands
  • Workspaces - List and create workspaces
  • Session - Report agent session IDs for resume support

Workspace Disambiguation

If you have projects with the same name in different workspaces, all project-targeting tools accept an optional workspace parameter to specify which one you mean.

Example Prompts

"Start the backend API"
"Show me errors from the frontend"
"Open localhost:3000 in the browser"
"Create a layout with frontend, backend, and a browser panel"
"Restart all projects in the Web App workspace"
"Add this project to Coda"

Auto-approve Coda Tools

To skip confirmation prompts for Coda tools in Claude Code, add this to your settings:
